Hot melt adhesive (HMA) is a 100% solid thermoplastic adhesive applied in a molten state, bonding as it cools. Free of water and solvents, it sets in seconds, needs no drying time, and emits virtually no VOCs, making it a fast, clean alternative to solvent-based glues in many industries.

In the apparel and garment-accessory sector, HMA plays a key role. Iron-on embroidered patches, sequin patches, woven labels and badges are backed with hot-melt film or powder for easy iron-on application. The same technology bonds hems, elastic, straps and decorative trims without stitching, and secures hardware elements in swimwear and lingerie. Automotive and electronics bond interior trim, headliners, components and cables with HMA, while hygiene items such as diapers rely on skin-friendly formulas. Glue sticks and guns are also DIY staples, and construction uses HMA for flooring and insulation.

Modern hot melts come in EVA, polyolefin, polyamide and reactive PUR systems, each tuned to substrate, temperature and service life, and low-temperature options keep expanding the range of bondable materials. From an iron-on patch to a sealed delivery carton, hot melt quietly connects everyday products, and its role across industries will keep growing.
