Pizza, Cast in Zinc: A Cord End That Carries The Brand

When a functional component can carry a story, it stops being a component.

Our latest development - a bell cord end die-cast in zinc alloy and shaped as a pizza slice - was produced for an Italian client. The brief was deceptively simple: take a standard drawstring terminator and give it a shape people recognise without being told.

Zinc alloy was the right material. Die-casting holds the fine relief of a crust edge, the recessed topping surface and the small perforations, where stamping would flatten the detail or push cost up. It also accepts a wide range of finishes, so the piece can read as polished gold, antique brass or matte black depending on the collection it belongs to.

The engineering sits behind the shape. The cord channel is dimensioned to grip without cutting, wall thickness is balanced so the casting stays crisp after plating, and the entry edge is radiused so it does not wear through cord or elastic.

For the Italian market this is not decoration for its own sake. Accessories there are read as part of a garment's attitude, and a recognisable silhouette does more for recall than another plain barrel.

Small parts, made deliberately.
